Shadbolt Centre for the Arts presents Faust, the latest edition of its series that pairs silent films with live music, on October 25 at 7:30 pm in the Studio Theatre Reserved.
In this 1926 classic of silent cinema directed by F.W. Murnau (the mind behind internationally acclaimed vampire film Nosferatu), the demon Mephisto makes a bet with an archangel that a good man’s soul can be corrupted. Mephisto sets his sights on the alchemist Faust, who is desperately trying to save his village from a plague. But when Mephisto offers a solution, it comes with a cost.
Vancouver based post-rock band Griefwalker will play an original live score to accompany this screening of Faust. The group last performed at the Shadbolt in February, when they live-scored another silent film, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
