John Reischman and the Jaybirds play a concert at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts on December 1 from 7:30 pm to 9 pm.

Celebrated mandolinist Reischman leads the Jaybirds for a night of original bluegrass music and instrumental pieces from traditional Appalachian music. With a discography of seven acclaimed albums, including 2021’s New Time & Old Acoustic, their distinctly unique sound has earned the group two Juno Award nominations.

Formed by Reischman in Vancouver circa 1999, the Jaybirds consist of Los Angeles, California-based guitarist Patrick Sauber, Chilliwack-based vocalist Trisha Gagnon, Nanaimo-based five-string banjo player Nick Hornbuckle, and Spokane, Washington-based fiddler Greg Spatz.

Reischman began his career in the San Francisco Bay area in the early 1980s with the eclectic Good Ol’ Persons bluegrass band. He was an original member of jazz-influenced new acoustic quartet the Tony Rice Unit, renowned for their highly skilled instrumentals.

Tickets to the concert are available here.
