Shadbolt Centre for the Arts presents Sansei: The Storyteller, a solo piece created and performed by Kunji Ikeda, with a 2 pm showing on April 27 and 8 pm performances on April 28 and 29.

On December 7, 1941, an attack on Pearl Harbor triggered the internment and dispossession of some 22,000 Japanese Canadians living along the West Coast. Through an engaging blend of dance, spoken word, historical audio, family interviews, and unexpected humour, Ikeda weaves an illuminating tale of this history that is profoundly personal.

Sansei: The Storyteller offers Ikeda’s observations about the internment, his discovery of where he came from, and how his family navigated their histories.

Produced by the Calgary-based Cloudsway Dance Theatre, the show was nominated for two Betty Mitchell Awards from Calgary Theatre in 2019, and won the Calgary International Fringe Festival’s Best of Fest award in 2014.

Tickets for Sansei: The Storyteller are available at Shadbolt Centre for the Arts.
