Dancer Shay Kuebler's muscle-flexing satire Feasting on Famine streams October 8, 7 pm
Body-shaving, endless poses, and protein powder
The National Arts Centre’s #DanceForth and the Dance Centre present Shay Kuebler’s Feasting on Famine October 8 at 7 pm
IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN Vancouver dance artist Shay Keuber’s Feasting on Famine, now’s your chance. And yes, he proves it is possible to laugh—a lot—at an evening of contemporary dance.
In Feasting on Famine, Radical System Art’s superchiselled star lampoons bodybuilding, turning its musclehead poses into a flowing choreography. In previous versions of the work, he also turned body-shaving into a hilarious sequence. But he’s just as bold about tackling darker messages about the obsession that drives guys to protein-powders and pharmaceuticals.
It’s a chance to see the street-influenced contemporary artist, who’s acclaimed for thrilling group works like Telemetry , ake the spotlight in his own warped and physically pummelling way.
The genuinely funny solo work appears as part of #DanceForth, a new National Arts Centre Dance livestream series designed to support Canadian dance artists. Feasting on Famine is presented in partnership with The Dance Centre.
