Vancouver-based performer, composer, and music educator Clara Shandler—known by her moniker Sidewalk Cellist—has just released her fourth album called Pacific Rain.
Audiences call it lush, gorgeous, honest, and real.
Pacific Rain is a 12-song cycle that dances between contemporary, classical, folk, jazz, and rock influences. Thought-provoking words are overlain with heart-touching harmonies and poignant dissonances.
In a world marked by division and extremism, Shandler writes lyrics that compel listeners to take care of themselves, and by extension, others and the world around them. It’s an album that garners renewed intirigue with each listen as layers of nuance come to light. We can only heal the world if we heal ourselves.
Shandler contributed vocals, cello, and piano to the record. She was joined by a team of equally talented musicians: pianist Roisin Adams, vocalist Carolyn Franklin, and double-bassist Maggie Hasspacher.
Shandler has also published the sheet music for each song on her website for musicians and students playing a variety of instruments at all levels to download for free.
