Following the wild success of last year’s sold-out performances at Songs of Summer, Gateway Theatre’s popular series is back outdoors and in-person for 2022 with more melody and cheer.
Afternoon and evening events take place on Saturday August 27 at Gateway Grove, on the lawn outside Gateway Theatre (6500 Gilbert Road, Richmond).
Afternoon festivities run from 2 to 5 pm. (Tickets: $15; ages four and under free, ticket required.)
From 2 to 3 pm, DJ Miss Sparklez and her multi-talented young performer and songwriter friend Rickie Wang take the stage to perform their favourite jams and songs that will get the whole family on their feet. DJ Miss Sparklez. aka Krystal Kiran, is a BC-born and raised singer, dancer, actor, choreographer, teacher, and now DJ who loves working with kids
From 3 to 5 pm, there are art activities led by visual artist Laara Cerman from the Richmond Art Truck, theatre games led by Gateway Academy Youth Leaders, and storytelling with professional actor and Academy instructor Magda Ochoa.
The evening event from 7 to 8:15 pm is a chance for people to bring their picnic blankets or chairs and relax among the trees for a magical evening filled with Motown tunes from Krystle Dos Santos and her three-piece band. The Vancouver-based soul, jazz, and R&B singer has won her two Western Canadian Music Awards for her elegant, bold, and sensual music. (Tickets: $30.)
In case of inclement weather, activities will be moved indoors. Ticket purchasers will be informed at least two hours prior. Light snacks will be available at the concession; adult beverages available in the evening.
