Some Assembly Theatre Company announces UPROOTED virtual Q&A
The October 17 event is a chance to talk to the team behind the new digital play about youth and climate change
While the COVID-19 pandemic is ongoing, the Earth is burning. Inspired by 16-year-old activist Greta Thunberg, young people worldwide are mobilizing, demanding climate action by world leaders.
UPROOTED exists within this growing movement. The new digital play by Some Assembly Theatre Company, co-presented by RHYTAG, stems from conversations with more than 100 diverse youth who are anxious about climate change. The story centres on three friends on an annual camping trip who find themselves suddenly facing a threat to the B.C. forest they love. Will they take a stand for future generations and protect what they view as sacred?
Written and directed by professional artist Valerie Methot in collaboration with a diverse team of young people, UPROOTED emboldens the collective response to the climate crisis and promotes mental-health management during these uncertain times.
The world premiere of UPROOTED is now viewable online at www.someassembly.ca. The team behind UPROOTED is hosting a virtual Q&A on October 17 at 3:30 pm. It’s a chance to connect with Methot and the youth involved. To reserve a spot, email info@someassembly.ca.
Some Assembly Theatre Company is in its 20th year of collaboratively creating original plays that promote awareness, dialogue, well-being, and positive social change surrounding issues facing young people.
