Powerhouse lineup includes Marcus Mosely Chorale, City Soul Choir, Dawn Pemberton, Candus Churchill, and more
The Marcus Mosely Chorale presents Stayed on Freedom concert at Christ Church Cathedral on February 18 at 7:30 pm.
JAZZ, POP, SOUL, and R&B influence the gospel music of Vancouver’s Marcus Mosely Chorale, which is celebrating Black History Month with its 10th annual Stayed On Freedom concert.
Mosely, of the Sojourners, is a BC Entertainment Hall of Fame inductee hailing from the Texas panhandle who’s well known for his stage roles in Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Show Boat and who wrote and directed It’s Time to Sing for the Arts Club Theatre.
Joining him on the creative team of the MMC, which has some 60-plus members, are pianist, performer, and teacher Bill Sample—Stayed on Freedom’s musical director who has worked with David Foster, Bryan Adams, and Celine Dion, among many others—and Darlene Cooper, singer, songwriter, arranger, and educator who has sung with luminaries like Leon Bibb, Shari Ulrich, Dee Daniels, and Jane Mortifee.
Stayed on Freedom special guests include singer, actor, and BC Entertainment Hall of Fame member Candus Churchill; queen of soul Dawn Pemberton; singer Will Sanders, a Sojourners member; and hip-hop vocalist Ndidi Cascade.
Cooper directs the MMC, while Karla Munday will direct the City Soul Choir.
