Still Moon Arts Society has just announced the 22nd-annual Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival, taking place from September 7 to 21. A fusion of art, nature, and community, the festival celebrates the Harvest Moon, Still Creek, local creativity, and the diverse cultural traditions of the Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood.

Attendees can expect everything from dazzling lanterns to live dance performances, accompanied by a diverse array of music and food. Activities range from making salmon lanterns and moon cakes, to embarking on guided tours that explore the history and wildlife of the Renfrew Ravine, one of Vancouver’s significant urban forests.

On September 14, enjoy Tea, Tunes and Verse in the Garden, an afternoon of spoken-word and music performances in an open-air gallery of naturally dyed fabrics and weavings. Then on September 17, mark the Harvest Moon with a mindful meditation stroll at the Full Moon Labyrinth Walk.

The ultimate family-friendly fun awaits on the festival’s main day, which takes place on September 21 from 4 pm to 9:30 pm around the Renfrew Ravine area. Events begin with Harvest Fair at Slocan Park; guests can enjoy diverse music and dance performances, eat Harvest Soup, shop local vendors, and make a last-minute lantern to carry in the Twilight Lantern Procession.

At sunset, the lantern parade leads crowds from Slocan Park along the edge of Renfrew Ravine and into the Streamside Lantern Installation, accompanied by community performers on stilts, folks in costumes, and live music. They’ll arrive at the transformed Renfrew Community Park, filled with giant lanterns and illuminated art. Accompanied by enchanting live music and tasty treats, it’s all set against a magnificent backdrop of towering trees and the flowing waters of Still Creek.

The evening concludes with Consciousness of Streams Performance, the final segment of a three-year series which contemplates the lost streams buried beneath the Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood, featuring dance, stilt performers, shadow theatre, and live music.

It is recommended that festival attendees transit, cycle, walk, or carpool to all events, as parking is limited.

Registration is now open for events and workshops leading up to the main day. Follow and tag #RenfrewRavineMoonFestival on socials to stay in the loop, and see full festival details here.
