Talking Stick Festival brings back Stories That Transform Us, in-person on June 12
The feature-length documentary by Corey Payette also screens for free online to July 3 as part of the festival
Full Circle’s Talking Stick Festival and Urban Ink present Stories That Transform Us in-person at SFU Goldcorp Center for the Arts Cinema on June 12 at 7 pm and online until July 3
WITH STORIES THAT Transform Us, a 90-minute documentary film, Urban Ink artistic director Corey Payette takes a dazzling look at the highlights of the transformative company in celebration of its 20th anniversary.
Urban Ink has played a pioneering role in bringing IBPOC voices forward in the local theatre scene.
Payette, who is of Oji-Cree heritage—and who is a winner of the 2021 BC Reconciliation Awards—inventively weaves together re-imagined creative shorts and theatrical works going back to 2001 with interviews with the company’s former artistic directors, Marie Clements (Urban Ink’s founder) and Diane Roberts. It also features Talking Stick Festival and Full Circle Productions founder and artistic director Margo Kane.
The feature film debuted at the 2021 Vancouver International Film Festival. (Read Stir’s feature article here.)
The film is screening in person and online for free.
