Studio 58's Metamorphoses reimagines Roman myths for current times, November 17 to 24

Second show of the season to take place out in community, at Vancity Culture Lab

Metamorphoses is a collection of transformative and gripping tales of grand proportion.

Studio 58, the professional theatre training program at Langara College, is preparing to present its second work of the season: Metamorphoses, a magical and enchanting show that defies traditional interpretations of classical texts.

The production is being staged at the Vancity Culture Lab at The Cultch, from November 17 to 24.

Inspired by Roman poet Ovid’s powerful myths and reimagined for current times, Metamorphoses is a collection of transformative and gripping tales of grand proportion.

The epic and playful piece, devised by the ensemble, uses the power of storytelling to expose our basic needs and desires. Experience glorious chaos and humbling adventures with familiar characters like Orpheus and Eurydice, Medea and her doomed children, ancient Gods and audacious heroes.

“Just when you think it can't get weirder, it does,” says director Daniela Atiencia. “These are not the myths as you know and remember them.”

The show features writing by Sami Ibrahim, Laura Lomas, Sabrina Mahfouz, with movement direction by Vuk Prodanović, set and props design by Kimira Reddy, lighting design by Jonathan Kim, and sound design by Owen Belton.

Tickets from $10 are available online at studio58.ca
