In celebration of 25 years of Vancouver’s beloved Eastside Culture Crawl, the Eastside Arts Society (EAS) is holding its annual fundraising event, Take Flight—officially launching the art festival’s 2021 edition.

In response to the current COVID-19 restrictions, Take Flight is running online at to November 6.

Now more than ever, EAS is calling on the community to support the arts. This has been a challenging time for all of us, but particularly for artists, who have been among the hardest hit during this pandemic. The majority of participating Crawl studios and artists rely on the opportunities and connections provided by the EAS to support their artistic practices throughout the year.

Support of this fundraiser allows EAS to continue to offer its free Culture Crawl festival programming, providing a vital connection between artists and the public and transforming community through art.

One of the most highly anticipated highlights of the Take Flight event is Art Roulette. Thirty Eastside Culture Crawl artists donate an original piece of artwork, each valued between $450-$2,500. Each ticket holder receives a unique number that's entered into the random draw. The numbers are drawn, and the ticket holder gets to select and take home an original piece of artwork. Tickets are available now for $375 plus GST here. .

Celebrated Vancouver artists including Paul Wong, Carla Tak, and Eri Ishii have donated some amazing and diverse pieces of fine art and crafts, including jewellery, furniture, clay, glass, painting, sculpture, and photography. There is also artwork by some of the Culture Crawl’s co-founding members, including Richard Tetrault and Esther Rausenberg.

All of the artwork can be previewed in person in a safe salon-style exhibit from October 19 to 24 at Georgia Art Studios at 884 East Georgia Street. Hours are Tuesday and Wednesday from 5pm-7pm and Saturday and Sunday from 1pm-4pm.

The silent auction, meanwhile, is now live for viewing and bidding until November 6. Highlights include jewellery, furniture, and workshops from Crawl artists; a week’s stay at a resort cabin; an acoustic guitar, wine; are more. View the silent auction.

The Take Flight Welcome Broadcast takes place November 6, officially opening this milestone 25th anniversary of the Eastside Culture Crawl Festival, and will be streamed on social media.

By supporting Take Flight, the public galvanizes EAS’s work in making the Eastside Arts District the vibrant neighbourhood people know and love and will ensure EAS can continue to bring the community together through art. Art happens here!
