Vancouver Recital Society presents Tamara Stefanovich at the Vancouver Playhouse on October 20 at 3 pm

BELGRADE-BORN PIANIST Tamara Stefanovich, who now lives in Berlin, has made a name for herself by embracing expansive performance projects; in 2022, she prepared 20 sonatas and performed them over three days in London, England. In 2019, she undertook a survey of études, exploring 100 years of the form in a series of performances across Europe.

For her Vancouver Recital Society performance October 20, she’ll offer an eclectic mix of 13 pieces: Baroque Johann Sebastian Bach sinfonias; 18th-century character works by Jean-Philippe Rameau, including the charmingly descriptive “La Poule” (The Hen); and a number of 20th-century works by Olivier Messiaen, whom she has described as “a colour sorcerer, light architect and time illusionist”.

Having earned rave reviews across the pond—with the Guardian extolling her as “fearless, dazzling, exceptional” and BBC Music Magazine gushing that “few can match Stefanovich’s capabilities when it comes to modern repertoire”—Vancouverites would do well to discover what all the fuss is about.
