THE CULTCH HAS unveiled an ambitious season of 11 live performances for the winter-spring 2022 season, between February and May.

After a mostly digital fall lineup, the venue that oversees the Historic Theatre, the York, and the Vancity Culture Lab is making a full return to in-person shows, from local premieres to visiting dance and contemporary-circus works.

The season kicks off in the new year with the return of the Femme Festival. Alanna Mitchell’s critically acclaimed meditation on climate-change Sea Sick, based on the book of the same name, launches the fest from February 2 to 6. That’s followed from February 8 to 13 by the Berlin-based collective still hungry, with the contemporary circus RAVEN at the York. Elsewhere as part of the fest, Pi Theatre’s Beautiful Man, by Erin Shields, debuts February 24 to March 5; March 10 to 19 will see the world premiere of Vancouver playwright Christine Quintana’s Clean/Espejos, performed in English and Spanish and exploring the lives of two women from different worlds; and The Search Party’s Bunny, by Hannah Moscovitch, plays March 17 to 27 at the Culture Lab. The festival also includes In Response to Alabama, Little Thief Theatre’s autobiographical work about the three performers’ experiences with abortion, running March 3 to 12.
