The Dance Centre begins a new season of its Discover Dance! noon hour series with Classical Indian Dances in Focus on September 28 at 12 pm.

The event is a chance for audiences to experience two beautiful and contrasting styles of classical Indian dance, famed for their intricate movements, percussive rhythms, and rich storytelling.

Kathak artist Fiana Kawane, bharata natyam dancer Shilpa Shankar, and special guests will illustrate the range, complexity, and musicality of these constantly evolving art forms. There will also be a post-show artist talkback where audience members can ask questions.

The Dance Centre has been presenting the Discover Dance! series since 2002, highlighting the range and diversity of B.C.’s dance scene in an informal, accessible format. Over the years, the performances have featured a host of dance traditions and genres, including African, ballet, bhangra, Bollywood, Chinese, contemporary, flamenco, Highland, hip hop, Japanese, Métis, samba, and tap.

Details and tickets are here.
