The Polygon Gallery is inviting audiences to enjoy classic films under the stars on Cates Deck in front of the gallery during the Deckchair Cinema series, which is kicking off on June 27.

Now in its third year, Deckchair Cinema treats audiences to a summer of al-fresco film screenings. Hosted over the course of 10 Thursdays, the screenings will commence at sunset, and will be complemented by music and entertainment leading up to curtain time. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and make themselves comfortable by bringing their own blankets or low chairs.

Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains—a Vancouver-shot cult favourite starring Diane Lane, Laura Dern, and members of the Clash and Sex Pistols—will open the series on June 27, along with a DJ set by Katayoon Yousefbigloo.

The four titles on the lineup for July are Jamaican crime film The Harder They Come on July 4, accompanied by musical performance So Much To Say: A Bob Marley Celebration with DJ Leroy Hikwa; Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense on July 11 with music by Niña Mendoza; Indigenous dystopian thriller Night Raiders on July 18; and action-filled rom-com Scott Pilgrim vs. the World on July 25 with music by Paisley Eva.

In August, five more films will be in store for audiences, including Academy Award-winning comedic-fantasy film Death Becomes Her on August 1, accompanied by North Shore Pride Night celebrations; fiction-documentary impersonation tale Close-Up on August 8; Jackie Chan action film Supercop on August 15; and rock opera Phantom of the Paradise on August 22. Futuristic action flick The Warriors will conclude the series on August 29, with music by RHEK.

A concession stand on site will feature drinks from local breweries, which can be enjoyed on Cates Deck, a public zone for alcohol consumption.

Admission to Deckchair Cinema is by donation, courtesy of BMO Financial Group, and includes access to the gallery’s summer exhibitions. Perhaps most notably, acclaimed photographer Martine Gutierrez’s landmark series Anti-Icon: Apokalypsis will open on July 11 for audiences to explore before the evening’s film screening.

Tickets and more details are at The Polygon Gallery.
