The Vancouver Bach Choir presents The Little Match Girl Passion, based on the Hans Christian Andersen story with influence from Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, on December 1 from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm at St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church.

Composed by David Lang, The Little Match Girl Passion was first performed in 2007 at Carnegie Hall. Join the Vancouver Bach Choir, along with a quartet of soprano, alto, tenor, and bass solo singers from within the choir, for this moving piece of music.

To complete the program conducted by Leslie Dala, Redshift Music partners with the choir to present Gavin Bryars’s powerful work Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet, based on a loop of an unknown homeless man singing an improvised melody.

Net proceeds from the event, which is a pay-what-you-can presentation, will be donated to the Vancouver Food Bank.

Tickets to the show and more details are available here.
