The Vancouver Bach Choir is joining forces with the Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra to close its vibrant 2023-24 season with World of Music, a choral concert featuring contemporary world music, at the Vancouver Playhouse on May 18 at 7:30 pm.

The Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra originally commissioned and recorded the two major pieces featured in this concert, Moshe Denburg’s “Ani Ma-amin (I Believe)” and Farshid Samandari’s “Asheghaneh”, with the Laudate Singers on the 2016 album Mystics & Lovers. Both works share central themes, drawing on the poetic best of many cultures to build bridges between them. They intertwine the human voice with traditional instruments from China, Iran, and India, along with Western European and North American strings and winds.

“Asheghaneh” will feature the vocal talents of Iranian-Canadian tenor Jamal Kurdistani. Also on the lineup is Niel Golden’s world premiere of a composition for intercultural orchestra and solo tabla.

Tickets and details are at the Vancouver Bach Family of Choirs.
