If you’ve ever wanted to hear Anton Webern and Dolly Parton in the same concert, now’s the time: Vancouver Cantata Singers hosts BLUE, a concert of music exploring imagery and emotions relating to the colour blue, at the Annex on February 18 at 3 pm.

As wavelengths of light are molecularly scattered through the atmosphere, the blue sky is reflected by the sea. The early origins of the word ‘blue’ meant shimmering and lustrous. Nowadays—whether it be cobalt, azure, ultramarine, grey, periwinkle, or any other shade of the colour—blue represents nature’s images of the sea and sky, while evoking deep feelings of tranquility, solace, imagination, and trust.

At the afternoon concert, the Vancouver Cantata Singers present a new commission by Marcel Bergmann, along with works by Stanford, Bingham, Barber, Górecki, Delius, Whitacre, and more.

Tickets and more details are available via the Vancouver Cantata Singers.
