The Vancouver Cantata Singers will end their season titled FORTITUDE: Strength in Song on April 29 at Pacific Spirit United Church with a thought-provoking concert at 7:30 pm. The show will explore themes of advocating for peace on our planet through spirituality, humanity, and song.
On the lineup for the anticipated concert is Randall Thompson’s extended 1936 a cappella composition The Peaceable Kingdom, inspired by Edward Hicks’ painting of the same name. The choral work evokes themes of good, evil, and peace.
The show will also include Iranian-Canadian composer Iman Habibi’s Colour of Freedom, a poetic response to the 2009 Green Movement in Iran which saw the death and imprisonment of dozens of Iranian protestors. The stirring piece will feature guest soloist Amir Haghighi.
Completing the concert is Felix Mendelssohn’s Verleih uns Frieden, and Roxanna Panufnik’s St Aidan’s Prayer.
Don’t miss the opportunity to see this final concert of the season. Tickets and more information are available at Vancouver Cantata Singers.
