Vancouver Chamber Choir offers up a serene way to celebrate the season with two concerts of CHRISTMAS BY CANDLELIGHT on December 16 at Pacific Spirit United Church—one at 6:30 pm and one at 8:30 pm.

This year the choir wanted to create an oasis of calm in the busiest days preceding the holidays: beautiful and rich tapestries of the sound of human voices in a dimly lit church; candlelight; the depth of the musical tradition for Christmas; peace and calm.

It’s a chance to unplug from the whirlwind of the holidays and join the choir for an evening of magical holiday ambiance, all under the baton of artistic director Kari Turunen. The concert will be presented without intermission, with music that ranges from a Gregorian chant to John Tavener’s “O, do not move” and Canadian-Finnish composer-in-residence Canadian-Finnish Matthew Whittall’s “Love came down at Christmas”.
