Located within the urban oceanside beauty of Jericho Beach Park, the 46th annual Vancouver Folk Music Festival runs July 14 to 16, presenting an impressive roster of folk, world and roots music from North America and around the globe. Over 40 acts are slated to perform on four stages over the festival weekend.

The evening main stage is a glimpse into the incredible diversity of music that audiences will see and hear at the festival—whether it’s the rocking sound of the blues, beloved Grateful Dead tunes, the heartbeat of powwow drums, Afro-Mexican grooves or new traditions from Southern Italy.

This year's lineup includes a number of familiar names, including Arizona-based Tex-Mex band Calexico, Canadian singer-songwriter and women’s music icon Ferron, talented multi-instrumentalist Joachim Cooder, and Juno Award-winning First Nations singer-songwriter William Prince.

Also on the roster are two international music legends: American singer-songwriter Joe Henry, who has produced three Grammy Award-winning albums; and renowned British country-rock guitarist Albert Lee, who has worked with the likes of The Everly Brothers, Eric Clapton, Emmylou Harris, and The Crickets. Kayhan Kalhor, a soaring talent in the world of traditional Persian music, takes the stage with his trio.

Three groups who live for the music of the dance will share their artistry: Italy’s Kalàscima is teaming up with stunning singer Andrea Ramolo to showcase the passion of the tarantella; the Cláudio Rabeca Quartet featuring special guest Serena Eades play forró, the popular dance music of Brazil; and the remarkable collaboration of the Melón Jiménez & Lara Wong Flamenco-World Trio will undoubtedly bring audiences to their feet.

Cedric Watson, a Grammy nominated accordionist who plays Cajun and Zydeco music, brings the authentic sounds of the Creole culture of southwest Louisiana along with fiddler Jourdan Thibodeaux. Audiences will also thrill to blues powerhouse, Tennessee’s Amythyst Kiah, Toubab Krewe’s heady world-influenced rhythms, and Tré Burt’s outspoken voice for social justice.

There’s plenty more to see at the festival, including a Little Folks Village for kids and families, fabulous food choices from Pete’s Eats outdoor food court, the Artisan Market, and the Beer and Wine Garden.
