COASTAL JAZZ & BLUES SOCIETY has just announced another 30 shows that will take place at this year’s Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

As part of the Granville Island Jazz programming, a lineup of local and international artists will play everything from traditional jazz and blues to folk and improvisational sounds at Performance Works, Ocean Artworks, and the Revue Stage.

Over at Performance Works, shows will run from June 25 to 29 at 2 pm each day. Among the artists there are the Bruno Hubert Trio with Brad Turner, the Jon Bentley Quartet, the Vancouver Youth Jazz Orchestra, and Teresa Marie and The Three with Jennifer Scott. Plus, four West Coast musicians will join an adventurous Swedish contemporary-jazz trio as MUSICMUSICMUSIC Oversized.

At the Revue Stage, shows will take place at 5 pm from June 25 to 29. Cellist Peggy Lee and guitarist Cole Schmidt will play tracks off their new release Forever Stories of: Moving Parties, and French jazz artist Eve Risser will perform her solo piano album Après un Rêve. More concerts will feature Susie Ibarra, Cat Toren, Tommy Babin, and Jen Yakamovich; Allie Lynn King, Nate McBride, and Kenton Loewen; and JPC & the BATTERY.

From June 21 to 29 at Ocean Artworks, artists will take to the stage at 4 pm. The performances in store include local guitarist-composer Julian Jayme’s City Folk project, pianist Dean Thiessen’s Stranger Friends 4tet, and Tony Wilson’s brand-new group Hellhound on My Trail. There’s also the John Nicholson Quintet, Suin Park Quartet, Thad Bailey-Mai Quartet, and Madeleine Elkins Trio.

Later at Ocean Artworks, ticketed evening concerts will be offered at 8:30 pm from June 20 to 29. Shows span Star System Plays Sun Ra, Bonnie Northgraves and the Sentimental Gentlemen, the Cory Weeds Quintet with guest Tyler Henderson, Thanya Iyer and Elisa Thorn, Raagaverse featuring Cassius Khan, Caley Watts and Kenton Loewen with Jesse Zubot, Krystle Dos Santos, and Confiture.

It’s all leading up to the fest’s celebratory culmination at Ocean Artworks on July 1. A full day of family-friendly programming is in store; read more about it here, and check out the Coastal Jazz website for a complete schedule of the shows in the Granville Island Jazz series.

Entry to most of these just-announced concerts will be offered on a pay-what-you-can basis, while tickets to the 8:30 pm shows at Ocean Artworks are $15 each at the door.
