The Vancouver Latin American Cultural Centre celebrates Latin American Heritage Month in October with the second annual Latin Expressions series, featuring film, music, theatre, visual art, dance, and literary events.

A highlight will be a Vancouver International Film Festival premiere, The Settlers, a debut feature by director Felipe Galvez. In this nihilistic Chilean southwestern, notorious cattle rancher Menéndez dispatches a trio of hired guns (a Brit, an American cowboy, and a local mestizo) to scout and scourge Tierra del Fuego. The searing critique of white supremacist foundational myths is presented in Spanish and English, with English subtitles.

Other Latin Expressions events include the concert Remembering the Future: Chile 1973 – 2023; three dance workshops co-presented by The Dance Centre; Electric Company Theatre’s Carmen Aguirre reading her new play; a walking tour by the Vancouver Mural Festival; and three Latin American authors at the Vancouver Writers Festival.
