On April 22 at 8 pm, Vancouver New Music will host a rare opportunity to hear George Aperghis’s complete Réctitations for solo voice performed by the inimitable Dory Hayley at the Annex Theatre.
Widely considered one of the finest contemporary vocal masterworks, a performance of Récitations demands a combination of virtuosity, stamina and versatility. Divided into 14 separate pieces that are based on a combination of phonemes and theatrical sound gestures, the work is characterized by high speed, repetition, accumulations, and high rhythmic pressure.
Vancouver-based soprano Hayley will perform all 14 Récitations to a live visual performance and installation created by experimental mixed media artist Matthew Talbot-Kelly, a.k.a. A Knobe Dee.
Complimenting Hayley’s interpretation of Aperghis’s exuberant and challenging work, Talbot-Kelly’s original art will feature a combination of animated augmented reality loops, edited digital loops, and an installation of physical assemblages.
Tickets to Récitations and more information available at Vancouver New Music.
