Vancouver New Music announces Electric Fields, an online music festival exploring intersections of body and technology
Available via on-demand videos, each exclusive performance blends motion and sound
Electric Fields—gestural sonic expansions, Vancouver New Music’s 2021 E-Fest, is fast approaching. Featuring exclusive on-demand video-performances, the online festival takes place from October 28 to November 10.
All five Electric Fields’ performances blend motion and sound—some using custom-built technology that extends the body as instrument; others incorporating devices that become “performers” in their own right. The featured artists experiment in their own ways with intersections of body and technology, exploring and transforming the blurred boundaries that define autonomy and creative agency.
Electric Fields will present dynamic streaming performances by HAI Trio (Italy/Austria/Korea); Toronto’s Aiyun Huang; Mari Kimura (US/Japan); Suzanne Kite (Oglála Lakȟóta); and Laetitia Sonami (U.S.).
Vancouver New Music has set aside its traditional festival format for one more year in favour of the virtual format, meaning people can enjoy the performances online anytime, at their convenience, by donation.
Viewers are invited to join artistic director Giorgio Magnanensi and the festival artists for an online roundtable discussion on November 6 at 2 pm PDT.
Tickets, which are now on sale, and more details are at Vancouver New Music.
