On May 28 at 8 pm, Sarah Davachi, Stefan Maier, and George Rahi will deliver a special evening of solo performances on Vancouver’s largest pipe organ at Pacific Spirit United Church (2195 W 45th Avenue), presented by Vancouver New Music.

From expansive dronescapes to novel sounds coaxed through uniquely crafted digital augmentation, these three artists approach this impressive instrument each with their own voice.

Davachi, Maier, and Rahi have been exploring the pipe organ’s capabilities in contemporary electronic and digital music practices in different ways.

Vancouver New Music artistic director Giorgio Magnanensi notes that “the wonderful expanded pipe organ at Pacific Spirit is one of the most amazing instruments we have in town, a large acoustic mechanical synthesizer capable of amazing sonorities in a beautifully resonating space. All of the works will fully exploit the potentials of both the pipe organ and the architecture, physical resonance and sonic materialities, conjuring a very immersive and engaging experience within material and spatial forms of sound.”

An artist chat takes place at 7:15 pm.
