Canadian pianist Stewart Goodyear returns to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra to tackle Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3, one of the most romantic and virtuosic pieces ever conceived, from September 20 to 22 at the Orpheum.

Later in the program led by VSO music director Otto Tausk, Stravinsky’s enchanting The Firebird ballet score is brought to life through the magic of Symphonic Cinema, an innovative format in which classical-music masterpieces are visualized into new drama films by Dutch film director Lucas van Woerkum.

The lineup also includes the mysterious Night, Herself by the late Jocelyn Morlock, who was composer-in-residence at the VSO from 2014 to 2019.

Performances of Firebird & Rachmaninoff on September 20 and 21 at 8 pm are presented as part of the Masterworks Gold series, while the 2 pm show on September 22 is part of RGF Integrated Wealth Symphony Sundays.

Tickets and more details are at the VSO.
