The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra presents Holst’s The Planets & Augustin Hadelich at the Orpheum on April 12 at 7 pm as part of the Musically Speaking series sponsored by Connor, Clark & Lunn Private Capital, and at Centennial Theatre on April 13 at 8 pm as part of the North Shore Classics series.

Blast off with special guest conductor Gemma New into Holst’s ever-popular interstellar suite, The Planets. Audiences will also hear British composer Alissa Firsova’s Die Windsbraut, her interpretation of the stormy love affair between Gustav Mahler’s widow Alma and expressionist painter Oskar Kokoschka.

Plus, singularly gifted violinist Augustin Hadelich brings his gorgeous tone and pyrotechnic passion to the stage for a performance of Britten’s Concerto for Violin. Join Hadelich for an exclusive masterclass at Pyatt Hall on April 11 at 5 pm through the VSO School of Music International Master Teacher Program.

Tickets to the concert are available online via the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
