Mark your calendars for an especially exciting performance when Vancouver Symphony Orchestra presents Prokofiev & Grieg on March 4 at 7 pm.
Part of the Musically Speaking series, the concert takes place at the Orpheum Theatre and is also available for virtual viewing.
Appearing for an exciting first visit is Russian-born conductor Anna Rakitina, Dudamel Fellow at the Los Angeles Philharmonic and assistant conductor of Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Blake Pouliot, a brilliant emerging artist on the Canadian scene, makes a return visit, bringing passion and presence to Prokofiev’s remarkably original Violin Concerto No. 2.
Also on the program is are selections from Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt: Incidental Music. Originally written to accompany the verse drama of the same name by Henrik Ibsen, the music debuted in 1876 and remains among the Norwegian composer’s most popular works.
