The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra will conclude its 2023-24 season with Tausk Conducts Mahler, Mozart & Chang at the Orpheum on June 7 and 8 at 8 pm, as part of the Assante Vancouver Centre Masterworks Diamond Series.
Tausk will lead the musicians through a performance of Mahler’s deeply introspective Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth), which reminds listeners of the fleeting nature of life versus the eternity of the world.
Audiences will also hear the return of Dorothy Chang’s Gateways, a concerto for piano and erhu, which thematically connects to the Chinese poetry from which Mahler drew inspiration for Das Lied von der Erde. Plus, the overture to Mozart’s timeless classic The Magic Flute will round out the program.
Featured soloists for this show will include pianist Corey Hamm, erhu player Andy Lin, mezzo-soprano Christianne Stotijn, and tenor Richard Trey Smagur.
Tickets and more details are available through the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
