The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra welcomes Wayne Marshall to the Orpheum Theatre for concerts on May 6 and 7, where the British musician will be both conducting and playing piano in a thrilling program.

The 7 pm performance on May 6 is included in the VSO’s Musically Speaking series, and the 2 pm show on May 7 is part of RGF Integrated Wealth Symphony Sundays.

World-renowned for his virtuosic ability to seamlessly inhabit the worlds of classical, popular, and jazz music with ease, Marshall’s ferocious talent does double duty on the podium and leading from the piano in two pieces: Gershwin’s seminal Rhapsody in Blue, and Leopold Stokowski’s grand orchestral arrangement of Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor, popularized as the opening to Disney’s Fantasia.

Marshall will also be holding a piano masterclass on the theme “Improv for the Classical Pianist” at Pyatt Hall on May 4 from 5 to 7 pm, that explores fusing the worlds of classical and jazz music.

Tickets and more information are available here.
