Vetta Chamber Music kicks off its 2023-24 season with a first concert, Life’s a Beach, from October 13 to 15. Performances are held on October 13 at the West Point Grey United Church at 2 pm; October 14 at the West Vancouver United Church at 7:30 pm; and October 15 at Pyatt Hall at 2 pm.
The shows feature renowned Canadian pianist Jane Coop alongside the Vetta String Quartet, which includes violinists Joan Blackman and David Gillham, violist Jacob van der Sloot, and cellist Zoltan Rozsnyai.
Three works will be performed: Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet in B-flat major, Op. 76, No. 4, “Sunrise”; Dmitri Shostakovich’s String Quartet no. 1 in C major, opus 49; and Amy Beach’s Piano Quintet in F sharp minor, Op. 67.
Recognized in 1896 as the first American woman to compose and publish a symphony, Beach is widely considered a musical trailblazer.
