Vancouver International Film Festival announces dates for 40th anniversary edition
The 2021 event will mix online and in-person screenings from September 30 to October 10
At least one thing is sure in this year of uncertainty: the Vancouver International Film Festival has just announced its 40th anniversary edition will take place from September 30 to October 10.
Submissions are now open for a landmark edition that plans to host both in-person and online screenings. VIFF made a dramatic pivot to its own streaming platform during this past pandemic year.
For now, plans are to screen approximately 100 features and 100 shorts from around the world. Just how many will be available in brick-and-mortar events at the newly renovated VIFF Centre will be determined in the coming months as the COVID-19 situation evolves.
The fest is inviting submissions for features, documentaries, and short films, via www.filmfreeway.com/VIFF . It is also inviting narrative-led virtual and immersive content as well, with a chance for finalists to be showcased at the VIFF Immersed Exhibition.
The early deadline for submissions is April 23, with the regular deadline May 28 and the late deadline June 11. More info can be found at http://goviff.org/submissions.
The festival will also encompass conferences, talks, workshops, and other events.
