VIFF is honouring National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21 with a selection of four films curated by Corey Payette, artistic director of Urban Ink. The day will showcase work from creators bringing Indigenous storytelling to the forefront in new and exciting ways.

Payette is an award-winning writer, filmmaker, and composer, with an extensive career in theatre before his feature film debut with Les Filles du Roi. The film had its Canadian Premiere at VIFF 2023. He is a member of the Mattagami First Nation, with Oji-Cree, French-Canadian, and Irish ancestry.

The day at VIFF Centre (1181 Seymour Street) will begin at 1:30pm with an in-person introduction to the series from Payette, followed by the screening of his movie-musical Les Filles du Roi, and a Q&A with the Leo-nominated lead actors of the film.

Heartfelt road movie Wildhood will then screen at 4pm, with VIFF 2022 opener Bones of Crows at 6:30pm, and mockumentary Hey Vikor! at 9:15pm. Additional screenings of Les Filles du Roi will be held on June 22 and 23.
