The 10th-annual Vines Art Festival runs from August 7 to 17, and with week two of the lineup comes an abundance of free song, dance, and storytelling performances.

Led by artists from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, When the Spirits Speak Back on August 14 is a night that honours an often-underrepresented community’s vibrant cultural hub and self-determination. The gathering with food, song, and dance features DANI YOUR DARLING + their only friends and MRD3 with Janelle Reid.

On August 15, Ways of the Warrior with Lil Smudge and Trickster Agenda highlights bold Indigenous artists and storytellers whose strength comes from their relationship to land and culture.

(Re)Written; Queering Our Legacies on August 16 is an evening celebrating 2SLGBTQIA+ history, existence, art, and legacy through drag, music, and dance featuring Maiden China, Continental Breakfast, Edzi’u, and Cru Alexander Timi.

Vines Art Festival closes on August 17 with (Re)Creation Stories featuring Oh Pray Tell, D Fretter, and Orchid Orchestra; it’s an opportunity to experience art that considers collective humanity.
