A new perspective on Mount Pleasant’s vibrant murals and a closer listen to the ambient sounds of the West End: they’re two of Vancouver New Music and the Vancouver Soundwalk Collective’s free Soundwalks happening this spring.

The first tour of Mount Pleasant’s mural zone happens May 29 at 2 pm, led by Jorma Kujala .

The week following, on June 5 at 2 pm, participants will be invited to listen to Vancouver’s lively West End in a Soundwalk led by Jamie Dolinko.

Hosted by members of the Vancouver Soundwalk Collective, the tours are silent group excursions along a planned route. The aim is to experience a location’s ambiance and underlying rhythms. All too often the sounds of the environment pass by unnoticed. A Soundwalk invites participants to actively listen, opening ears and consciousness to the complex orchestration that the environment is composing at all times.
