THE VANCOUVER Symphony Orchestra has just announced full plans to stream more than 100 concerts via a Netflix-style hub to celebrate #DayOfMusic in BC on Saturday, May 15.

The VSO projects more than 100,000 people to join in on the new DayOfMusic.ca virtual platform.

DayOfMusic.ca will also host a livestream from the Alan and Gwendoline Pyatt Hall, featuring interviews with guest artists, behind-the-scenes access, quizzes, interactive Q&As, and closing with a livestream performance by the VSO with Maestro Otto Tausk at 2:40 pm from the Orpheum.

On top of virtual performances on DayOfMusic.ca, some collaborators will livestream throughout the day using the #DayOfMusic hashtag.

The scores of participating acts range wildly from classical to school groups to bands. They include students (Belmont Secondary School Senior Winds, Lord Byng Senior Honour Orchestra) to individual musicians (Cory Weeds, Aaron Graham) to well-known ensembles and bands (Elektra Women’s Choir, Early Music Vancouver, Queer As Funk, Silk Road Music, Vancouver Chopin Society, Vancouver Chamber Choir).

Following May 15, the hub will stay up with free access for a full year.

The virtual hub and all performances go live at 12:01 am May 15. The hosted livestream will launch at 10 am and feature interviews with a variety of guests and topics.

On the virtual hub, performances will be sorted into genre categories to allow for a simple and intuitive browsing experiences. There will also be a search function to find specific concerts. Follow and use the #DayOfMusic hashtag on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to find livestreams and other content from partner organizations. You can also ask Q&A questions to be directed to the hosted livestream with the hashtag #DayOfMusic or in the YouTube chat.
