Vancouver Symphony Orchestra brings its 2021-22 season to a dramatic close with Mahler’s Symphony No. 5.
Within Her Arms , a gorgeous meditation by English composer Anna Clyne sets the stage for Gustav Mahler’s lush masterpiece. VSO Music Director Otto Tausk leads each moment filled with intense emotion from the first trumpet call through the delicate “Adagietto”—said to be the composer’s love letter to his wife Alma—and culminating in the massive final horn anthem.
Also on the program, the VSO performs Dutch composer Steven Hoogenberk’s Resonance, featuring VSO principal violist, Taiwan-born Hung-Wei Huang.
