Mischa Maisky—the exclusively Deutsche Grammophon artist, and the only cellist to have studied with both the revered Rostropovich and Piatigorsky—is making a rare and highly anticipated West Coast appearance. The celebrated performer joins the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for two exciting concerts.

Part of the Musically Speaking Series and RGF Integrated Wealth Symphony Sundays, Maisky plays Dvořák takes place April 1 at 7 pm and April 3 at 2 pm at the Orpheum.

His mentor Rostropovich once said of Maisky: “…one of the most outstanding talents. His playing combines poetry and exquisite delicacy with great temperament and brilliant technique.”

Maisky will perform Dvořák’s Cello Concerto, considered to be among the composer’s most personal works.

Also on the program are Verdi’s Vespri Siciliani Overture & Ballet Music and Schubert’s Symphony No. 4 “Tragic”. Speranza Scappucci conducts.
