Dee Daniels puts a little pop into Christmas with VSO at the Orpheum, December 10 and 11
The local blues, jazz, R&B, and gospel singer puts her own spin on holiday classics
Vancouver Symphony Orchestra presents VSO Pops Christmas with Dee Daniels on December 10 at 11 at 8 pm at the Orpheum Theatre.
ANYONE CRAVING A jazzy take on holiday classics need look no further: an acclaimed local pianist-singer-songwriter is putting her own swingin’ stamp on so many seasonal songs when Vancouver Symphony Orchestra presents VSO Pops Christmas with Dee Daniels this weekend.
Daniels is known as a musician’s musician for her four-octave vocal range, wide range of styles, and masterful storytelling. She got her first taste of music in her stepfather’s gospel church choir and has recorded with jazz giants like Benny Green, Wycliffe Gordon, Toots Thielemans, Clark Terry, and Helen Sung, to name but a few. A leading interpreter of the Great American Songbook, Daniels has taught and performed around the world.
The concert is all about the magic of Christmas, with VSO associate conductor Andrew Crust leading.
