Vancouver Symphony Orchestra’s the Show Must Go On: Stories of Resilience, a Virtual Gala Performance, takes place February 18 at 6:30 pm PST online
IT’S A HOT ticket: the VSO is livestreaming The Show Must Go On: Stories of Resilience, a Virtual Gala Performance, featuring musical performances from maestro Otto Tausk and the VSO plus a star-studded lineup of appearances.
Itzhak Perlman, Measha Bruegergosman, James Ehnes, k.d. lang, Geddy Lee, Steven Page, Red Robinson, Stewart Goodyear, Bria Skonberg, Jens Lindemann and Janet Austin will all share their own stories of resilience.
“This has been a year of incredible evolution and learning,” Tausk said in a release. “The orchestra and I are listening and performing in ways we never imagined. It’s been really challenging but also extremely rewarding. I can’t wait to share our work at this special Gala concert. On behalf of the musicians of the VSO, let me express my gratitude in advance to everyone who is supporting this very special Gala performance.”
Vancouver’s own Steve Maddock hosts the event live from the historic Orpheum Theatre, with the evening streaming at TheConcertHall.ca, VSO’s virtual home, presented by TELUS.
VSO has partnered with Patrick Roberge Productions for a cutting-edge online experience worthy of a sumptuous in-person gala.
“Over this last year, we have had to completely reimagine live events,” said PRP principal Patrick Roberge. “For the upcoming VSO Gala we have focussed on the music and the people that bring the music to life. Using live television technology, we are going to bring the Gala experience directly to your living room. We are thrilled to be working with the VSO to create this memorable Gala Concert”.
The gala concert, presented by Nicola Wealth, aims to raise more than $500,000 in support of the VSO and the VSO School of Music.
“This past year has been all about moving forward, reimagining ourselves and one other, and living our mantra ‘The Show Must Go On’,” Angela Elster, president and CEO of the VSO and VSO School of Music, said. “In order to facilitate a reinvention of our traditional marquee gala fundraiser, we reached out to our networks around the world. The response has been stunning with superstars…and so many dear friends and collaborators stepping forward. February 18th will definitely be a night to remember as we unite people across our city, province and country in a celebration of music and resilience.”
