Ruby Slippers Theatre presents a free streamed reading of Benevolence on January 8 at noon, via Zoom
LOCAL ACTORS CHARLIE GALLANT, Lucia Frangione, Jovanni Sy, Raugi Yu, and Agnes Tong all take part in a live reading with Ruby Slippers this Friday at noon.
The well-known Vancouver actors are on hand to debut playwright Leanne Brodie’s new English translation of Benevolence. Quebec playwright Fanny Britt’s script won the 2012 Governor-General’s Award for Drama in the French-language category.
Brodie is well-acquainted with translating Quebecois plays; to date she’s created English versions of more than two dozen of them.
The black comedy focuses on a big-city lawyer who returns to his hometown of Benevolence due to a tragic accident that throws him into a moral dilemma.
