“Cantare Super Orchestram” means to sing over the orchestra, a phrase that suits the organization’s collaborations with renowned a cappella Belle Voci Vocal Ensemble.
The Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra is one of the only professional orchestras in the Fraser Valley. The orchestra’s Music Director and Conductor is Paula DeWit, a well known musician and conductor with a great interest in the artistic direction of choirs and orchestras. DeWit is a Heinz Unger Award Nominee as well as a Honorary Paul Harris Fellow.
The Cantare Super Orchestram concertmaster is violinist Chloe Meyers, who performs with early music ensembles across North America. She has led or appeared as soloist with groups including the Victoria Baroque Players, Pacific MusicWorks, Ensemble Masques, and Les Voix Baroques, of which she was a founding member. She trains young artists in the Baroque Orchestra Mentorship Program, an initiative of UBC, Early Music Vancouver, and Pacific Baroque Orchestra.
Among the members of Cantare Super Orchestram are Erin Dorfer, violin, who performed and studied baroque violin at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in the Netherlands; Joshua Gomberoff, viola, who earned his Master’s of Music at the Manhattan School of Music; Shin-Jung Nam, violoncello, who has a Master’s of Music from UBC; Michael Vaughan, violone, who performs with many classical orchestras, including Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra; Mikyla Jensen, traverso, who specializes in early music; Connor Page, continuo, who earned his Bachelor of Music degree from UBC; and Kosta Bozhinov, lute, who completed a PhD in musicology from the University of Victoria.
