All Bodies Dance Project melds inclusivity and innovation, March 24 at noon
Both live and filmed works combine in a program that challenges expectations for integrated choreography
The Dance Centre presents All Bodies Dance Project at the Scotiabank Dance Centre, March 24 at noon
ALL BODIES DANCE Project is pioneering force in the world of contemporary dance, mixing performers who live both with and without disability.
By nature, choreography featuring people of differing abilities is about relationships, and in its unique approach to ingrated dance, All Bodies challenges expectations, rarely showing a standing body alongside sitting dancers.
This lunchtime survey of new work, part of The Dance Centre’s Discover Dance series, shows how the troupe employs wheelchairs, crutches, and canes to open up new movement possibilities and show the beauty of a range of dancing bodies.
The noon program is a perfect introduction to the range of potential the troupe taps, with both live and filmed works.
Offerings include Triality, by choreographer/dancer romham pàdraig gallacher; Sanctuary, a film featuring choreographer/dancers Harmanie Rose and Rianne Svelnis; and Inflect, featuring Rose and Peggy Leung. You can also check out the larger scale dance film Near/Far, with Vanessa B. Mendoza, Bee Andressen, gallacher, Janice Laurence, Marnie Maretic, Cheyenne Seary, Ashlee Davidson, Eileen Mackenzie, Aviva Martin, Alana Prochuk, and Trina Frometa.
ASL interpretation will be offered at the event. All Bodies requests that masks be worn for the event, due to the fact its community includes immunocompromised artists.
