Ballet BC streams Unfold + Give by donation until December 31 at midnight

WHEN BALLET BC returned to the stage last month for the first time since pandemic lockdowns, it was electric. The company unveiled three world premieres, as well as a gorgeous GARDEN by new artistic director Medhi Walerski.

And now, for those who missed out, or those who simply want to relive the magic, the company has released a digital presentation of the program.

Each builds a separate universe of sight, sound, and movement. Ethan Colangelo’s Stadium explores the wholly relatable theme of uncertainty, with innovative use of the titular venue’s glaring lights. Elsewhere, Company 605’s Josh Martin and Lisa Gelley create a striking duet for standout siblings Justin and Evan Rapaport in After We Glow, the vinyl-clad doppelgängers matching each other’s frenetic movement in front of a tangle of neon tubes. And Vancouver standout Lesley Telford’s Baroque-beautiful Lean-to boasts live accompaniment by members of the Pacific Baroque Orchestra.

In GARDEN (shown in this digital program in a recording from April), tbe dancers, lit luminously in skin-coloured bodysuits, move fluidly in and out of a dreamlike void to the sounds of Camille Saint-Saëns’ Piano Quintet in A minor.

It's perfect viewing for a cold winter's night--and a last chance to see the company, which doesn't return to the live stage again till March, dance. Get to know a few of Ballet BC's new talents in our article here beforehand.
