Vancouver’s Boca del Lupo is continuing its Micro Performance Series this May, providing a big impact through small-scale creations and experiences.

The second Micro Performance of 2024 will be co-presented with the Vancouver International Children’s Festival as two separate shows: TREE, for infants ages 0 to 2; and TREE: A World In Itself, for neurodiverse children ages 4 and up. Both shows are produced by Theatre Motus, a puppetry theatre company from Quebec which creates stunning, engaging live performances especially for children.

Young audiences are invited to experience the magical world of TREE in this gentle and intimate show. Throughout the show, folks can settle into mama bird’s cozy nest while she warms her luminous clutch of eggs. Plants, insects, and animals will visit, accompanied by soothing melodies and rhythmic music. As evening falls, little audience members will rest under the rising moon, stars, and the shimmering Milky Way, gathering strength to spread their wings like fledgling birds of light.

TREE: A World In Itself will allow viewers to enter a multi-sensory, fully interactive universe, enveloped in soft light, music, and also silence, where five characters constantly adapt to the various sensory sensitivities of their audience. This show was created for autistic children and further adapted to accommodate children with intellectual disabilities and reduced mobility.

Boca del Lupo’s Micro Performance Series launched in January with Dear Laila, presented  as part of the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival. TREE will kick off a new longterm collaboration between Boca del Lupo and the Vancouver International Children’s Festival, two organizations that share a long history of partnership, which will see one element of the Micro Performance Series being presented at the festival each year from 2024 to 2026.

TREE will be presented at Carousel Theatre for Young People on May 28, 29, and 31 at 10 am and 12 pm, and on June 1 and 2 at 10 am. TREE: A World In Itself will run at the same venue on June 1 and 2 at 12 pm.
