Friends of Chamber Music are delighted to welcome the Calidore Quartet from California for their debut performance in Vancouver on November 1 at 7:30 pm at the Vancouver Playhouse.

With over a decade performing in venues worldwide, numerous critically acclaimed recordings, and significant awards, the Calidore String Quartet is known for “deep reserves of virtuosity and irrepressible dramatic instinct”, according to the New York Times.

“This quartet…now taking the world by storm, is astonishing,” the L.A. Times has raved. “I’ve never heard a quartet so young get so inside this ultimately inscrutable music….The Calidore approached the kind of sublimity other quartets spend a lifetime seeking.”

For its premiere concert, the Calidore will perform Beethoven’s Quartet in B-flat major, Opus 18, No. 6, “La Malinconia”, selections from “At the Octoroon Balls” by Wynton Marsalis, and Smetana’s  String Quartet No. 1 in E minor, “From my life”.
