CHOR LEONI MEN’S Choir has just unveiled a full live season that features 20 commissioned premieres and a newly renovated home venue.

The choir is celebrating its 30th anniversary with six performances, augmented by digital concerts. They’ll perform them in the refurbished St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church.

In addition, the choir is welcoming BC composer Don Macdonald as the new composer-in-residence, and is presenting a new professional chamber ensemble called The Leonids. The nine-member ensemble will take on project-based work, striving for musical excellence and providing education and mentorship to Chor Leoni’s youth program and festival participants.

The season kicks off with the choir’s most beloved tradition, Remembrance Day, on November 10 and 11 at St. Andrew’s-Wesley.

The candle-lit Christmas with Chor Leoni returns to the same venue on December 17, 18, and 20, joined by guest violinist Cameron Wilson.

That’s followed in the new year with PopCappella II on March 4 and 5, with a mix of pop and choral music.

VanMan Choral Summit is scheduled for May 12 and 13 with A Sound Like This, the debut program of The Leonids in a double bill with Chor Leoni. The concert features works by Macdonald, plus music by Edie Hill, Sarah Rimkus, Ysaÿe Barnwell, Melissa Dunphy, Michael McGlynn, Kile Smith, and Veljo Tormis. On May 14 at Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, the summit continues with Chor Leoni’s MYVoice youth outreach choirs and the VanMan Festival Singers alongside The Leonids and Chor Leoni for the Vanman Summit Concert—more than 250 men singing together is a sight and sound to behold.

The season concludes with C/4 on June 3 at St. Andrew's-Wesley, the choir’s Canadian Choral Composition Competition featuring Katerina Gimon, Pierre Simard, and Robert Rival.
