Chor Leoni announces 2022-23 season, live and online
The Juno-nominated men’s choir marks its 31st season with more than 15 world premieres
CHOR LEONI WILL perform more than 15 world premieres during the 2022-23 season, with six live performances as well as free digital concerts. The 67-voice Juno-nominated men’s choir is marking its 31st anniversary.
It all kicks on November 10 and 11 with the return of Chor Leoni’s Remembrance Day concerts. We Sang Our Songs takes place at the group’s home base at the recently renovated St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church, where most of its performances occur.
Christmas with Chor Leoni runs December 16 to 19. Alongside classic carols will be four world premieres, with accompaniment by guest fiddler Cameron Wilson and harpist Vivian Chen.
Pop meets choral music in the popular PopCappella III on March 3 and 4.
The Turning: Chor Leoni & The Leonids happens May 11. Made up of some of North America’s leading male vocal talents, the Leonids will perform independently as well as with Chor Leoni and its emerging choral artist program. VanMan Choral Summit Concert follows on May 13 at Chan Centre for the Performing Arts. More than 300 voices from the Leonids and Chor Leoni’s MYVoice youth choirs, emerging choral artists, and VanMan Festival will join together to form Canada’s largest male choir for one night only.
The season wraps up on June 2 with C/4: Canadian Choral Composition Competition. A chance to learn what goes into bringing new music to life, the interactive evening of music and discussion led by Chor Leoni artistic director Erick Lichte features composers Robyn Jacob, Chris Sivak, and Laura Hawley.
“This season explores themes of connection, hope, and the transformative power of music,” Lichte says in a release. “The singers of Chor Leoni are eager to return to the stage and create a space where all audiences can experience the magic and joy of choral singing as a community.
“We’re proud to welcome our audience back into our gorgeous home, St. Andrew’s Wesley United, for another wonderful season,” adds Lichte. “Our concert home has become one of Canada’s premiere choral venues and the perfect place to welcome audiences from around the world.”
New this year is a 35-and-under ticket discount as well as flexible ticket packs for people wanting to attend multiple concerts. The choir’s digital concerts are free of charge with RSVP.
